Amid UN Call to Action, Hudson Explores Clean Energy

January 26^th marked the United Nations’ 2^nd Annual International Day of Clean Energy, a day declared “as a call to raise awareness and mobilize action for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet”.

During an event organized to commemorate this occasion at the United Nations’ Headquarters in New York, a call to action from leaders around the world expressed the need for renewable energy sources, clean cooking technologies, and expansion of global access to electricity.  Further highlighted was the importance of clean energy in the fight against climate change.

Our latest initiatives include exploring the use of biofuels on Hudson ships.  Biofuels are a source of renewable energy, unlike fossil fuels such as petroleum, coal, and natural gas, that are derived from biomass (plant, algae, or animal waste).  The use of biofuels reduces greenhouse gas emissions, significantly cutting carbon dioxide compared to traditional fossil fuels.

There are many forms of biofuels available that can supplement or replace the existing bunker fuels in widespread use by the maritime industry and Hudson looks forward to implementing these innovations as we continue to make strides toward a Clean&Green™ future.
