Hudson Gives Back Through GiveNKind
653,104 people experienced homelessness in the US in 2023 of which 111,620 were children. Compared to 2022, homelessness increased by 12 percent over 41 states. With this many people experiencing hardship, organizations like GiveNKind are critical now more than ever.
Founded in 2012, GiveNKind provides access to essential goods to Chicagoland nonprofit organizations such as A Safe Place, Save-A-Pet and Meals on Wheels. They receive their donations from businesses looking for environmentally and socially responsible ways to manage their excess goods. In 2023, GiveNKind helped 186 nonprofits receive over $10.12 million in resources such as athletic shoes, reusable-filter water bottles, personal care, cleaning and school supplies, apparel, and more.
As a supply chain company, Hudson understands the resilience required to work through these difficult logistical operations, especially ones as selfless as GiveNKind’s. And with our philanthropic mission to give back and support our communities, Hudson employees volunteered with GiveNKind to help prepare goods for packaging and distribution to the 500+ nonprofit organizations they now support.
Hudson’s volunteers had a great experience working together to sort through the thousands of donated items, grouping together all medicinal items from dental and hygiene supplies, infant care like diapers and wipes, to household necessities like dish soap, or pet care and toys. This detailed organization made it easy to build care boxes that would include elements from each category that would then be donated to individuals within non-profit organizations.
Volunteers were enthralled by the organization’s commitment and effective operations, stating:
“I was impressed with the organization and how much product they are moving into other non-profit organizations. It felt good to help (in a small way) and be around people who dedicate their time and effort into helping others.”
“I was impressed by the scope of GiveNKind's mission and their commitment to reach a wide variety of people and needs. Clearly given the scale and volume of supplies they are turning over, they are making a significant impact in our community. I was glad to be able to do my part, albeit small, to help organize and get supplies ready for shipment.”
“I liked how they explained their model and that the volunteer work was clear and organized.”
“I enjoyed learning about GNK and how their operations help people in need.”
“I enjoyed having an opportunity to positively impact the community.”
Our Hudson volunteers are motivated to continue these efforts with other organizations and cannot wait for the next volunteer opportunity.
